Annual Design Awards - 2011

 

 

The Norwich Society introduced a new award for conservation architecture in memory of Sir Bernard Feilden (1919-2008) which was given to Cinema City.  Lady Feilden presented the award which is a model of one of the Assyrian lions from outside City Hall made by Norwich sculptor Do Philips.

Peter Studdert, our speaker, has recently established an independent consultancy in town planning and urban design and was formerly Director of Joint Planning for Cambridge’s Growth Areas and Northstowe New Town.

He was previously Director for Sustainable Communities for Cambridgeshire Horizons, and prior to that Director of Environment and Planning at Cambridge City Council from 1991 to 2004. An architect and town planner by training, Peter has over 30 years’ experience in town planning in local government, having also worked for a number of Inner London Boroughs from 1976 to 1991.
He is a member of English Heritage’s Advisory Committee and the CABE/English Heritage Urban Panel. He was elected to the Policy Council of the Town and Country Planning Association in 2010. Since 2003 he has served on a number of Panels and Committees of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE), including its Ecotowns Design Review Panel, its Planning Advisory Committee and its Regional Committee (representing the East of England). He is a member of the Academy of Urbanism and is a Past Chairman of the Historic Towns Forum.
