The Environment Committee will work to ensure that the City is maintained to the highest standards with regard to cleanliness and appearance. As a result of active monitoring by the Committee, concerns and observations will be put in a constructive and co-operative manner to the local authority.

Particular attention will be given to the following:

  1. Ensuring that the City’s open & green spaces, parks, the river valleys and the fringes are a safe and attractive enhancement to City life, particularly in the context of new development.
  2. Ensuring that the quality of street furnishing, lighting & signage is of a good standard & well maintained.
  3. Maintaining traditional City views, particularly with respect to tree planting & signage.
  4. The matter of waste disposal in the City receives the best attention.
  5. That the discouraging of urban vandalism, litter and graffiti continues.
  6. That pollution by emissions, noise and lighting is reduced as much as possible.
  7. Ensuring that footpaths and cycleways throughout the City are properly maintained, signed and protected; and encouraging the extension of such provision wherever possible.

The Committee aims to carry out an audit annually on a study of an environmental issue and produce a report which will be published.
